Rethinking The Genetic Theory Of Inheritance: Heritability May Not Be Limited To DNA

advertisement

Scientists at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) have detected evidence that DNA may not be the only carrier of heritable information; a secondary molecular mechanism called epigenetics may also account for some inherited traits and diseases. These findings challenge the fundamental principles of genetics and inheritance, and potentially provide a new insight into the primary causes of human diseases.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

This is good news. Thanks for posting.

This rings an obscure bell. I read an article very many years ago during the cold war. At that time, some Russian scientist had a theory about some traits being passed along in a way that bypassed DNA. He also stated that that mechanism supported some transformations triggered by behavior modification. I was very intrigued but never heard anything more about it since.

I think that this could have been stated better, certainly it is the DNA that carries the genetic information but their is an interplay between environment and transcription factors.

    phoenixrising,

You are right. And I also screwed up on my post as well. The DNA bypass part is absolutely incorrect. Posts are hard to retrieve, and apologizing is embarrassing. The rest is approximately right - which is still to vague to put down on paper.

It really is, some people have a hard enough time comprehending science, one liners may only serve to confuse.  DNA makes RNA makes Protein....lets add from there.
